Wantage MP Ed Vaizey might now stand as an independent candidate

Wantage MP, Conservative minister during the coalition years and Sparsholt & Westcot resident, Ed Vaizey, has told the BBC that he would consider standing as an independent against a Conservative candidate.

"There's this thing called a British sense of fair play. I've had thousands of emails of support from my constituents and I think they would be pretty angry not to have the chance to vote for me."

The Wantage & Didcot Conservative Association "sadly acknowledge that Ed Vaizey MP has had the Conservative Whip removed from him after supporting Sir Oliver Letwin’s European Union (Withdrawal) Motion in Parliament on Tuesday 3rd September 2019 and would like thank Ed for all his hard work since his selection in November 2002 and his election in 2005. We will decide on the selection of a Conservative Parliamentary Candidate in due course."
