The Star Inn, Sparsholt makes The Good Food Guide again

on Thu, 12/09/2019 - 10:17am

Congratulations to all at The Star Inn, Sparsholt, who have made the 2020 Good Food Guide again this year.

The Good Food Guide's review of The Star:-

"Bags of rustic personality – flagstoned floors, ancient beams, plain wooden tables and chairs, a winter fire and a summer garden – signal that The Star is a comfortable country inn with all the necessary attributes, although most visitors come for the food.

The kitchen is bang on the money, the menu offering appealing ideas that take in everything from burgers and steaks to British heritage cooking with a global feel. Cured and seared salmon, for example, could be teamed with Asian fishcake, peanut and soy dressing and a lime crème fraîche, or Westcombe Cheddar and mustard croquettes served with Roscoff onions, pesto and hazelnuts. A main-course roast guinea fowl breast and glazed thigh might arrive with chantenay carrots, truffled cauliflower cheese and potato terrine. Finish with dark chocolate financiers with salted caramel sauce and banana sorbet.

Lunch is very good value and service is ‘friendly and accommodating’. "
