Dear Friends,

Advent is more than just a chocolate calendar counting down to Christmas, it is a time that is marked by themes of self-reflection, anticipation, hope and joyful celebration. This year, following a series of difficult Christmases, we are all hoping for a chance to welcome people back to our homes, our services and traditional family events. However, for some this Christmas, hope and joy may be in short supply, as there is a war in Europe, a cost-of-living crisis and increasing concern about our climate. We all may well need to do things differently. Perhaps we should get back to a simpler Christmas.

One thing just about everyone knows from the Christmas story is that the Shepherds and the Wise Men followed a star and that the star signified the birth of a new king. The words of the angels that we hear in the Christmas readings invited the Shepherds and the Wise Men to see the new King. This welcome is repeated for us all. The star beckons and calls us all to come and hear the invitation which is for all people, to know the love, hope and salvation revealed by Jesus, the Light of the World.

The Ministry team and Church Wardens look forward to welcoming you to our churches ...join us for a beautiful candlelit moment, a joyful nativity service, a Christingle service, a service of Holy Communion and a chance to sing your favourite carols. Come and hear again the Christmas Story and be encouraged by the hope and joy it brings to us all. This Christmas...we are all invited to ‘follow the star’ and find out what it is pointing to!

Loving God, by the leading of a star, you revealed Jesus, the Light of the World. As we follow the star, lead us out of darkness into his wonderful light. Amen
