Road closure - Baulking Lane - 15th May to 14th August

on Fri, 15/05/2020 - 7:13am

Baulking Lane will be closed from the junction close to the Baulking railway bridge to the A417, from 15/05/2020 to 14/08/2020. This is for Thames Water Mains Reinforcement works. There will be two main phases of the work, on either side of the road leading to Kingston Lisle.
The alternative route for traffic is via Station Road – Fawler Road – B4507 – B4001 – New Road – A417 and vice-versa. Or through Shellingford and Fernham.
County Cllr Yvonne Constance has been pressing TW and OCC Highways on our behalf about this long closure, and the response on 28/04/2020 was:

The Thames Water closure on Baulking Lane will not be able to have one lane open as the road will be too narrow once the works site and safety zone has been erected.  The plan for the works is to directionally drill under the road for the new connections. Our technical officer for the area has highlighted from previous works that parts of Baulking Lane are of a harder construction so directional drilling may not be possible and works may have to involve open cutting of the carriageway in some areas. If this occurs then the works will take the amount of time requested on the permit application of 12 weeks.
If all the works are able to go ahead with directional drilling the road will be able to be reopened at an earlier date. 12 weeks were requested in case open cutting caused delays and the works had to be extended for a longer period of time. We have asked the project manager for the works to keep you updated with regular emails regarding the progress of the works.

The programmed closure of Fawler Road (Fawler Hill) Kingston Lisle for resurfacing from 8 to 13 June has been postponed until later in the year due to the clash with the above closure.

With thanks to Simon J in Uffington.
