Refurbished West Challow Village Hall Now Open - Launch Friday 13th Dec at 7pm

on Wed, 27/11/2019 - 6:38pm

The newly renovated West Challow Village Hall which now sports refitted toilets, replacement windows and doors with double glazed units, rewiring and new heaters was funded by a £18,331 grant from funding body FCC Communities Foundation.

Mandy Barclay of the West Challow Village Hall Committee: “This vital facility is going to make a real difference to those who use it, as well as the wider West Challow Community.  We are extremely grateful to have FCC Communities Foundation for providing funding as we would not have been able to go ahead without its support”.

To celebrate the refurbishment, an official launch will take place at the hall on Friday evening, 7pm, on Friday, 13th December, together with the Christmas pub night.  A glass of bubbly and nibbles will be served, and the bar will be open - all welcome.

FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Penny Horne, Grant Manager for FCC Communities Foundation says: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to people and community groups within West Challow and the surrounding villages. FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”

West Challow Village Hall is situated in a rural setting at the edge of the village. The Hall was officially opened at 8pm on 30th June 1951 by Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman who lived in nearby Wantage. The Hall is the centre of our community, being the only public building for social events. The village has no pub, shop or school. As such it has served the needs of the village since the 1950’s. With essential maintenance work that can now be carried out thanks to the FCC Communities Foundation grant, our Village Hall heritage will be guaranteed for many more years to come.

The premises are available for hire £10.00 an hour or for West Challow Residents £8.00 an hour.
