Plea from Cllr Constance to keep motor vehicles off the Ridgeway - DEADLINE 20/3

on Mon, 19/02/2018 - 7:30pm

As County Cllr for the Division covering the Ridgeway from Ashbury to Wantage I write to urge you to respond to the current consultation by Oxfordshire County Council (OCC).

There were 32 applications to OCC in 2005/6 to ‘upgrade byways’ to ‘byways open to all traffic’ (BOATs)  - i.e. to permit motor vehicles/trail riders on defined footpaths/bridleways.  These applications are being actioned at last and evidence is needed to keep motor vehicles off the Ridgeway.

In my Division all the applications relate to the Ridgeway, and if granted, would permit motor vehicles (4x4s and motor bikes) back onto the Ridgeway.

Please email OCC officer to state your residents’ experience that motor vehicles made so bad an impact on the Ridgeway that it became unsafe/unusable for other users : walkers, cyclists, and horse riders.

GLEAM campaigned for years to prohibit motor vehicles on the Ridgeway and it should stay that way.  If your Parish has any records on file about use of the Ridgeway, OCC would be glad to know it.

Thank you!  More details can be found at:-
