Moscow trained concert pianist to mentor young Wantage musicians at local Festival

Leading concert pianist James Kirby, GRSM, ARAM will be adjudicating piano and other instrumental classes at Wantage Music Festival 19th and 26 June. (Final closing date for entries 23 April).

James gives recitals throughout the UK including at the Wigmore Hall, Edinburgh and Aldeburgh Festivals and extensively throughout Europe. He studied at the Moscow Conservatoire and returns to perform concertos and recitals and lead chamber music courses in the former Soviet Union every year. He has given concerto performances with the English and Scottish Chamber Orchestras and Moscow Symphony Orchestra in venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Symphony Hall -Birmingham and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire.

He is also a member of the Barbican Piano Trio which has recently celebrated its thirtieth anniversary and performs regularly at Festivals and important concert series in the UK and throughout Europe and the UK.

Competitions Director for the Wantage Music Festival, Jim Mitchell says ‘I sincerely believe that performing at music festivals and in other competitions is a vital path for the development of any young musician, particularly for anyone wishing to prepare for a career in the music industry. This year’s Wantage Festival is even more important as several other local music festivals have been cancelled due to the corona virus epidemic’.

In addition to instrumental classes of all types, there are also extensive classes for vocalists (Adjudicator: Belinda Mikhail) including the Opera Unmasked Opera prize. Other classes aren’t just restricted to just classical music with Show Music and Folk Music included.
