Dear Friends,

For many young people these summer months are a time of transition. Pupils are completing their primary education and looking forward to senior school. Students having finished their exams are awaiting exam results and looking to the future. All of us, however, experience times of transition, celebrating a special birthday, getting married, moving house, having a baby, caring for a relative, mourning the loss of a loved one. In the words from ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ (Michael Rosen & Helen Oxenbury) We can’t go over it, we can’t go under it….we have got to go through it, the psalmist puts it another way, ‘Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path’. (Psalm 119.105). When we appreciate that we are not alone in facing these transitions in life it gives us courage to continue the story and say ‘What a beautiful day. We’re not scared’. ‘The Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid’ (Hebrews 13.6a).
