Dear Friends,

As the church marks the beginning of Advent the country is preparing for a General Election. Advent is a time of watching, waiting and expectation as the readings not only direct us towards Christ’s birth but challenge us to confront the theme of divine judgement. In our churches there are no flowers during Advent and the liturgical colour is purple, mirroring the season of Lent. So although Advent is a season of expectation it is also tinged with penitence; providing an opportunity to reflect and feel regret for what we have done wrong.

‘Search me and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting’. Psalm139. 23 – 24

May this Advent be a blessing to you and to the nation.
