Phantom of the Open (12A) - Wednesday, 12th October

After a great start to our new season with the heart-warming film ‘The Duke’ we are sticking with the ‘feel good’ formula for October with another British comedy - ‘Phantom of the Open’.

The film tells the true story of Maurice Flitcroft, a crane driver from Barrow-in-Furness who blagged his way to a place in the British Open Golf Championship in 1976, having never played a round of golf before. Its one of those tales where reality is stranger than fiction!

Released in 2021, award winning Mark Rylance is excellent in the lead role as Maurice, with Sally Hawkins as his loyal and supportive wife. Rhys Ivans heads up the cast of the golfing establishment who are outraged by Maurice’s antics.

This is the story of an external optimist who follows his dreams and triumphs in defeat. It’s been very well reviewed by both critics and audiences, who have left cinemas feeling uplifted - hopefully you will too, if you come to see it.  The trailers are enough to make you want to watch more, and you certainly don’t have to know anything about golf to enjoy it!

Entrance- £5. Film starts at 8pm; doors open at 7.30, come along early and enjoy a drink/chat to friends.
