Hotpoint and Indesit washing machine owners must re-check for fire risk (Jan 2020)

January 2020: Owners of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines have to check again to see whether their model is on a recall list of fire-prone appliances.

An extra three models have been added to the host of machines that may catch fire owing to an overheating door mechanism.

It means that 5,000 more machines are being added to the 519,000 the company is trying to locate.

Over 500,000 Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines are being recalled, plunging manufacturer Whirlpool into a fresh saga over dangerous appliances.

The machines, branded as Hotpoint or Indesit, which are brands owned by Whirlpool, were sold for more than five years between October 2014 and February 2018, but their door locking system can overheat creating the risk of fire.

What should I do if I own a Hotpoint or Indesit washing machine?

Find the model number and serial number of your appliance. You can find these codes either inside the door of the washing machine, or on a label on the back of the appliance.

You can also call 0800 316 1442 to check if your machine's affected.

My machine is affected – what should I do?

If your washing machine's impacted by the fault, unplug it immediately and then contact Whirlpool on 0800 316 1442 or via its website.
