Faringdon Leisure Centre to get a major makeover

on Thu, 13/06/2019 - 7:24pm

Vale of White Horse District Council is investing £177,500 refurbishing Faringdon leisure centre starting this month (June 2019).

The swimming pool changing area, including cubicles, toilets and showers are the first on the list of improvement works to the centre. The sauna and steam room are also set to be fully replaced.

The current poolside changing area will be closed between 17 June and 19 July for the work to take place. A temporary pool changing area will be created during this time using one of the centre’s two squash courts.

The changing area will be gutted to make way for a full replacement of cubicles, lockers, toilets and showers along with new floor and wall tiles in these two areas.

All other facilities will remain open as normal.

The budget of £177,500 is funded entirely from secured and approved S106 funds. (S106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 - contributions from developers towards the costs of providing community and social infrastructure, the need for which has arisen as a result of a new development taking place.)

The pool opened to the public in 1999 and attracts more than 90,000 swimmers a year.
