Face coverings will be mandatory in enclosed public spaces including supermarkets, indoor shopping centres, transport hubs, banks and post offices in England from Friday 24th July.

They must also be worn when buying takeaway food and drink, although they can be removed in a seating area.

Those who fail to wear a mask will face a fine of up to £100.

Children under 11 and those with certain disabilities will be exempt.

The page below explains what face coverings are, their role in reducing the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19), the settings in which they are recommended, and how they should be safely used and stored. This information is based on current scientific evidence and is subject to change.
