Cycle Routes around Wantage & the new cycleway to Harwell Campus

on Tue, 03/11/2020 - 6:17pm

There is a new circular 220 mile cycle route a few miles south of Wantage. The King Alfred's Way (click) passes landmarks including Stonehenge, Avebury and Barbury Castle, as well as our own White Horse. The route was developed by upgrading certain sections of footpath to allow cycling, and also includes existing bridleways, byways and quiet country lanes. It even connects with four other National Trails (click).

The Icknield Greenway will soon offer a route between Wantage and Harwell Campus, passing through beautiful countryside and with a new bridge over Ginge Brook. It is not yet officially open, and the surface is not yet finished, although some parts can be used. For the latest information, check the council webpage or sign up to the Science Vale Cycle Network bulletin <here>.

The Faringdon cycling group the Farcycles have created lots of route maps for cycling around the area (click), some of which include Wantage. Cycling UK Wantage have also produced route maps (click).
