Coronavirus - COVID19 - Advice

on Thu, 26/03/2020 - 12:49pm

Coronavirus or Covid19 is a virus. Typical symptoms of coronavirus include fever and a cough that may progress to a severe pneumonia causing shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

Generally, coronavirus can cause more severe symptoms in people with weakened immune systems, older people, and those with long-term conditions like diabetes, cancer and chronic lung disease.

What you HAVE to do:-

  • Wash your hands very regularly - soap or hand gel can kill the virus
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing - ideally with a tissue - and wash your hands afterwards, to prevent the virus spreading
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth - if your hands touch a surface contaminated by the virus, this could transfer it into your body
  • Don't get too close to people - ideally, keep 2m (6ft) away
  • Stay at home - no unnecessary journeys or social contact
  • Only leave home for essential shopping, medical needs and exercise (once a day, maximum)
  • Public gatherings of more than two people are banned - excluding people you live with
  • Do not visit other people's houses or socialise outside your home
  • If unwell, isolate yourself and your family
  • Keep in touch with one another

Supporting the vulnerable:-

If you have been shopping for neighbours or family members who are vulnerable, elderly or self-isolating, please continue to do so.

The government says you are allowed to leave your home to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.  Just be careful to follow the usual guidance about washing your hands and keeping a safe distance from others. Where possible, it is sensible to leave the shopping on the doorstep for them rather than handing it to them directly.
