A message from Paul Barrow, District Councillor for Ridgeway Ward, Vale of White Horse

Report for parishes 20200928

Covid-19 second phase

Responsibility for delivering food parcels, should there be a second comprehensive lock-down, now falls to local authorities with a requirement to process 900 per week rather than the 70 in the first phase. Let’s hope it does not reach that stage! We have been told that the council preparations are well under way to cope with this.

We don’t yet know whether there will be further implications for leisure centres. This is being discussed with GLL who manage the facilities.

Covid-19 app

You may already have seen the posters with QR codes for scanning in public buildings and in some businesses, coffees shops etc. These are now a legal requirement for all publicly accessible buildings including businesses. An alternative check-in process should also always be available.

£500 for low-income families is available which have to self-isolate for 2 weeks. This will be administered by the Vale and we are awaiting further information on how this will be done.

We had a lively meeting at the Oxfordshire Health Overview Scrutiny Committee (HOSC) last Thursday. You may remember that the OX12 Task & Finish group established by HOSC to scrutinise the plans put forward by the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (OCCG) for the OX12 postcode, with the highest profile issue being the future of Wantage Hospital. You may also recall that we, on the Task & Finish group, were very dissatisfied with the lack of transparency and poor data in dealing with the OCCG to the extent that we nearly threw out their interim report. The new Head of Oxford Health (OH) has recognised that things did not go well and they are now taking a much more positive view of the future of the hospital with a proposal for provision of a range of services run from the hospital. We and the Wantage and Grove Health Committee are now in discussion with OH about the nature of these additional services and the future of in-patient beds.

Recycle week

Apparently last week was recycle week! (Oops!) However, a number of videos have been produced by the Waste Team to advise and help. These are available for viewing. · Together we recycle – Help at home · Together we recycle – Help the bin crews · Together we recycle – call centre help - · Together we recycle – Help behind the scenes -

Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OXLEP) involving business, councils and the universities, have been closely involved in developing a county recovery strategy. The county has an extensive and vibrant industrial sector some of which is very high-tech and university spin-outs. I have their presentation if anyone is interested.
